Valverde is a municipality in the Canary Islands in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The town, which is located on the north east coast of the island of El Hierro, is the smallest capital in the Canary Islands and the only one that lies on the coast. The city's climate, which is generally mild all year round and where summers are warm and winters are cold, make it a popular destination for tourists. That said, the city doesn't have huge amounts to offer and sits on top of a windy mountain ridge that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. The town's buildings are low and whitewashed and aren't as pretty as those found in some of the other capitals in the Canary Islands. However, on a clear day there are some wonderful views to be had from the town and on the occasional day it is possible to see Tenerife's El Teide and La Gomera from the town centre.

In the town's early history it was a small fishing town that has since experienced significant growth and expansion over recent decades to make it a popular destination in itself. The pedestrian area of the town that borders the beach seems to be where most of the action is and along the long promenade you will find many restaurants, bars and cafes that offer good local and international food. Head away from this area and you will find many exclusive boutiques along with great shops from where bargains can be found.
