The English city of Plymouth is located on the south coast of the county of Devon, in the south west of the Britain. It is around 300 km to the south west of London and is located between the mouths of the River Plym and the River Tamar, where they both join Plymouth Sound. The city's history is inextricably linked to the sea and in its time the city has been, or still is, a hub for shipbuilding and seafaring in general. It is also home to the largest operational naval base in Western Europe, Her Majesty's Naval Base Devonport.
The city's waterfront areas have many attractions for visitors to enjoy. The Barbican's cobbles quayside are definitely worth strolling through where visitors can follow in the Pilgrim father's footsteps. Alternatively, the National Marine Aquarium with its deep water fish tanks is also worth a visit. Then there is the Blackfriars Gin Distillery, where Plymouth's finest export can be tasted or simply take a boat trip around Plymouth Sound from Mayflower Steps.
