Long Harbour Guide

Long Harbour Ferry Port

Used as the gateway to mainland Canada, Long Harbour is located on the east coast of Salt Spring Island, which lays to the east of Canada. The only ferry route out of Long Harbour is to Tsawwassen on the Canadian east coast and it takes around 1 hour 20 minutes. Long Harbour is very much a holiday destination which caters to those who enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle in beautiful, natural surroundings. Diving, cycling and kayaking are all popular pastimes with both tourists and permanent residents; once visitors witness the stunning landscapes it is easy to see why many people spend so much time in Long Harbour’s great outdoors. In the summer, the beaches are worthwhile visiting; they are typically long and narrow with a forest resting behind, differing from the usual stretches of sand and sun-loungers. Away from the energetic activity synonymous with Long Harbour, there are also options for visitors who prefer a more relaxed approach to life. There is a market every Saturday and Tuesday, though they don’t run all year round, as well as several small independent shops perfect for a day browsing for some bargains. After a day shopping, there are some hidden spots away from the busy areas which are ideal for whale watching, providing a cost-free way to spend a few hours. There are several ways to get around Long Harbour, even without a car. In keeping with the healthy lifestyle, many choose a bicycle as their mode of transport, though there are rental scooters and cars or even a taxi for convenient transport.
