About San Andres Islands

San Andres is a Colombian coral island in the Caribbean Sea, lying approximately 230 kilometres east of Nicaragua.

This seahorse-shaped island is the largest of the namesake archipelago, boasting crystalline waters which have been declared a UNESCO Seaflower Biosphere Reserve, which means snorkelers and divers are guaranteed to be surrounded by colourful fish and coral reef with a visibility of around 30 metres.

San Andres is also a great spot for fun activities like windsurfing, jet skiing and kite surfing, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy. The beaches are also scattered with natural rock pools, ideal for children.

The island’s port can be found on the northeast coast, where frequent sailings are provided to Cayo Bolivar and Providencia, the other islets in the archipelago, so it couldn’t be easier to enjoy one of Colombia’s most beautiful regions.

About Providencia Island

Providencia Island is part of the Colombian archipelago of San Andres, Providencia and Santa Catalina in the Caribbean Sea, approximately halfway between Jamaica and Costa Rica.

A British Puritan colony was established on this far-flung island in 1692, leaving behind a traditional English-Creole dialect and old-English road signs, making it one of Colombia’s most commercially unaffected slices of paradise. And because of Providencia’s relative remoteness; rather than floods of tourists, you’ll find friendly locals, happy to arrange top-quality snorkelling, diving and hiking trips, and just a sprinkling of hotels and restaurants in the small hamlets. On the northeast side lies the nine hundred and ninety five-hectare national park, comprising coral reefs, mangroves, dry tropical forests and beautiful cays.

You can reach Providencia by ferry from San Andres, roughly ninety kilometres to the south, with several routes every week docking on the northwest coast of Providencia.
