Lewis is the largest and northernmost island in the Outer Hebrides, located off the northwest coast of Scotland. The island is home to some of best prehistoric sites in Scotland, most particularly the Callanish Stones which date back to the Neolithic era in 3000 BC and a broch from the 1st Century AD, while the west coast has some incredible beaches. The main town of Stornoway on the east coast is the largest in the archipelago, characterised by attractive Victorian homes, various boutiques, a vibrant arts scene and the impressive Lews Castle. From the port in Stornoway, you can choose from a few sailings every day across to Ullapool on the mainland, a picturesque fishing town regarded as one of the best outdoor holiday destinations in the UK.
