The Dominican Republic is the second largest country in the Caribbean, sharing its island with Haiti to the west. The Dominican Republic’s primary port can be found in the capital, Santo Domingo on the south coast which is served by a large network of roads including the DR-1 highway. The port is a useful gateway to the neighbouring island country of Puerto Rico to the east, with frequent sailings provided each week to San Juan on the north coast.
